Worldwide research shows the fastest and most efficient way to alleviate poverty is to give people cash and allow them to manage their own household budgets. Path Home is building on this proven solution by piloting our own cash transfer program that is currently serving 20 families - more than triple the size of the first cohort we worked with in this program! Current Cash Transfer families are divided into two cohorts:
Monthly assistance: 15 families are receiving $575 a month cash assistance for 2 years
Lump sum: Five families are receiving two lump sum payments of $5,000 each spaced 6 months apart
In addition, families are supported by a Path Home case manager who helps to set goals for themselves and track their progress over the course of their cohort program. Each quarter, families participate in a survey to assess housing stability, income levels, and educational attainment, as well as intangible but crucial factors like a family’s quality of life and overall sense of wellness.
