KITCHEN HELPER
Summary: The kitchen is a popular place during mealtime! Support staff before, during, and after meal service while families pop by to pick up a meal. Tasks include doing dishes and assisting with meal prep, service, or clean up. Be ready for other miscellaneous tasks such as dating foods, restocking the pantry, or cleaning and sanitizing surfaces/appliances. You will work closely with the Kitchen Manager, Josh, or other Shelter Coordinators.
Shifts: Monday-Friday 4:30-7:30pm (Need to arrive closer to 5pm? No problem! Just inform Jen in advance.)
The Nitty Gritty:
Dish Duty:
Scrape off food scraps into the compost bin.
Rinse off dishes (use soap and water for greasy dishes)
Load up dishwasher - Make sure all dish surfaces can be touched by the sprayer and hit start. It is a 90 second cycle (Dreamy right?). Make sure the dishwasher hits 120F. If not, run it again.
Air dry on the counter. If you need to hand-dry, use paper towels.
Remember to wash hands before touching clean dishes.
Food Storage:
Always date foods (leftovers, condiments, dry goods, etc.)
Practice FIFO (first in, first out) -- Oldest food should be placed in front to be used first, newest food should be placed in the back to be used last.
Store all meat in the bottom of the fridge.
Requirements:
Closed-toe shoes
Please pull your hair back if it is long
Wash hands in designated hand-washing sink
